Do cell towers harm people’s health?

A mobile phone has become an attribute without which almost nobody in Kyrgyzstan can imagine their life. The development of cellular communications makes some people feel happy and causes distrust among others. Are cellular communications and its facilities dangerous to human life and health? Anton Kovalenko, the technical director of the mobile operator O! answers.

The O! mobile operator works to provide telecom services to people taking into account the constitutional right of every citizen to a favorable environment. It is critical for the company to build communication facilities in accordance with the current laws of the Kyrgyz Republic, in strict compliance with all requirements and standards.

Each new communications facility undergoes a thorough inspection, which includes measuring electromagnetic radiation (EMR) levels to ensure compliance with acceptable levels of energy flux density. After completing the construction of each facility, careful monitoring of the EMR level is carried out in cooperation with a licensed organization. In addition, inspections are regularly carried out by authorized government authorities.

Based on the results of such inspections and many years of scientific research around the world, it has been found out that cell towers that comply with all norms and standards do not pose any danger to people’s health. The company has necessary documentation containing results of examination by authorized specialists for each tower.

It is also worth noting that, in order to effectively provide services, the O! mobile operator only uses licensed equipment from world market leaders based in CIS and other countries which is widely used by telecom providers all over the world, say, in Europe or USA. It allows us to provide high quality service and meet all necessary standards.

- Is it necessary to install cellular antennas on buildings or near houses? The quality of cellular communications directly depends on the number of base stations operated. Cellular service providers install additional antennas to improve signal reception. The more base stations there are, the better and more reliable the signal is. Therefore, installation of new antennas generally benefits everyone. The development of cellular communications is intended to improve living conditions of the people providing them with an opportunity, in case of emergency, to promptly report what happened to relevant authorities and be in touch with relatives living in different parts of the country and the world.
